The Grand Central area of mid-town has a welcome new addition to its culinary line-up. BUtterfield8 is located in the area once served by the Butterfield telephone exchange and yes, it is named after the 1960's movie starring Liz Taylor.
The informal menu is suitable for dropping in at lunch or after-work with drinks. Innovative and upscale versions of old favorites are on offer, including a Philly cheese steak made with prime rib & Jalapeno cheese served with thin, crunchy fried onions. A grilled cheese made with proscuitto and a trio of cheeses on Texas toast is rich and filling.
Don't skip the tasty appetizers including stuffed, bacon-wrapped shrimp and a spinach dip served hot with tri-color tortilla chips.
Finally for dessert, a giant chocolate chip cookie freshly baked and served hot in a miniature cast iron skillet topped with a huge scoop of ice cream will fix whatever is wrong with your day.
