Gloria Wandrous would certainly be proud, if not a regular customer, at the martini happy hour at this soon-to-open midtown saloon. Wandrous was Elizabeth Taylor's call girl character in the 1960 film "Butterfield 8," which garnered Taylor a Best Actress Oscar (the title also refers to an old Manhattan telephone prefix). Owner John Gazzola will pay tribute in the space formerly occupied by Confetti Pasta. On tap: a 40-foot bar, backlit bottle shelves of white onyx and black mahogany, and a back dining room serving lunch and dinner, before converting to a dance floor and cocktail seating at night. It's really the after-work martinis they'll be pushing, though. "With all the businesses in the area, we figured we'd be able to do a great happy hour in that location," Gazzola says. Late October. |
